SACRED DANCES

The sacred dances and gymnastics known as “Movements” that Mr. Gurdjieff left to students of his teaching serve men and women in studying and expanding their experience of life. As adults, we long ago adapted to a limited repertoire of postures and gestures. Our thoughts and feelings are directly connected to our bodies, and thus tend to flow through repeating cycles. Over time, our capacity to perceive a greater reality outside of habitual patterns becomes limited. Concentrated work in a class, with music, allows the organism to embody a broadening range of energies that happenstance alone cannot allow. This attentive engagement offers the possibility of a completely new relationship between mind, feeling and body, which can broaden and deepen an experience of subtle, finer currents animating one’s inner life.
